The Nightcare Hub: A Safe Space in the Heart of Cheltenham
The Nightcare Hub, a cornerstone of women’s safety in Cheltenham, is an initiative of the Cheltenham Guardians Safeguarding Team. Located at 1 Royal Crescent, behind the coach station, the Hub operates every Saturday night and Sunday morning from 10pm to 4am. The space is generously provided by the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA), showcasing their commitment to supporting community welfare.
As a female safe space, the Nightcare Hub offers women a welcoming environment with practical and emotional support tailored to the night-time economy. Services include a quiet place to rest, phone charging, toilet facilities, flip-flops for tired feet, bottled water, and empathetic peer support from trained female volunteers. Whether someone needs a break during or after a night out, a safe spot to wait for transport, or a listening ear, the Hub is equipped to help. This aligns with the Cheltenham Guardians’ mission under the India Protocol to proactively safeguard women, reduce vulnerability, and promote a safer town.
Beyond its role as a sanctuary, the Nightcare Hub also serves as the Saturday night base of operations for the Cheltenham Guardians. From this central location, the team coordinates street patrols, responds to calls, and supports women across Cheltenham’s night-time economy. This dual purpose enhances the Guardians’ ability to act swiftly and effectively, ensuring that help is always within reach. Women can visit the Hub directly or contact the Guardians at 01242 350 330 to seek assistance or report a concern.
Thanks to the Royal Air Forces Association’s provision of the premises, the Nightcare Hub exemplifies the power of community collaboration. It not only offers immediate support to women but also strengthens the Guardians’ operational reach, making Cheltenham a safer, more inclusive place during the night-time hours.
